Great AMC Day

I have had a great AMC day thus far. I went back to
the junkyard this morning to see about pulling the T5
transmission (and especially the bellhousing) from a
1983 Eagle wagon. We have had rain here and the car
was on stands right over a huge puddle. So I asked
Mario the yard manager if the yard mechanics could
pull the transmission before they crushed the car in a
week or two (since I would have to work in the mud.)
He said sure, and we put "tranny sold" on the window
with grease pen.
Then a few minutes later Mario came up to me and said
why don't we pull it right now, to prevent a screwup
later. (The yard had crushed a whole Eagle wagon a few
months ago without even putting it out for parts,
after I had requested parts from it.) So they
retreived the wagon with a forklift and pulled the
tranny and bellhousing for me while I waited. I'll go
back tomorrow or Christmas Eve and pull the hydraulic
clutch pieces. I didn't have the right tools today.
After I paid Mario (and was happy as a pig in doodoo)
Mario presented me a bottle of red wine and a company
calendar and wished me a Merry Christmas.
This is a great old-time style junkyard with real
friendly people and the parts prices are very
reasonable. I can't help but think that they won't be
around much longer if an Eco Freak gets on their case.
Unpaved junkyards are going to be a distant memory
here in CA.
But for now, I'm still smilin'.
