Re: Pacer steering rack

I have experience installing and driving a Pacer with
a manual rack. I thought I was doing myself a favor
getting rid of the leaking power unit, but son found
out two things:

1) The car was extremely hard to steer, as the
steering was very heavy and SLOW.

2) The rack, more GM junk sold to AMC fell apart in
short order. I was very glad to find a good rebuilt
unit that which was properly assembled and did not
leak.

Do yourself a favor and forget about a manual rack in
a Pacer. Buy a rebuilt power unit, which seem much
better than the new factory ones, or install a rack
from a Mustang, which can be made to fit with little
trouble.
