Re: WARNING! Re: AMC 6cyl flywheels (more info)

A: Depends on your plan. 5 speed std? I would suggest the newer than '08/89
AX-15 5 speed from a 2wd, but the Peugeot BA 10/5 can also be had cheaply
(In fact, if someone were to help me remove it, they could have the fully
functional one in my Comanche now along with the clutch, but it needs a new
input shaft seal) I'm switching to AW4 auto and NP242 Tcase (to make my
truck really 4x4 along with todays SOA rear axle swap, I'LL sit head and
shoulders above most other vehicles on the street! <G>) 4.0L and all '72 up
AMC 6 and V8 bellhousings swap.
I have spare starters and probably have another CPS (I buy them for $40
from the local dealer) to go with it. Doc says it's not a torn rotator, but
"simple" (ha ha!) Bursitis and messed up previous damage from the car that
fell on me (that I lifted and tossed) and an injury due to a 2x4 that was
shot from a trim saw at a previous job a couple years ago. (put me out of
commission for nearly a week then)

Thanks for this tip! That's even better. Can you suggest a year
range for donor cars?

So I assume the 4.0-era bellhousings fit onto the 1982 258,
but do you know if the older AMC manual transmissions bolt onto
it? I could drill and tap it if necessary, if depth and the big
hole are right. It would mean 'one stop shopping' for flywheel,

clutch, bellhousing, and a used starter!
