Further info on Flywheel 3197219 casting... I'm thinking the 3rd number, the mystery flywheel that Tony Zamisch spoke of would be a "parts bin" flywheel. I mean that if they ran out of 401 flywheels, they bolted this on, then put it on the Gisholt Balancer, which drilled holes in the harmonic balancer and flywheel until it balanced to the motor. Same with a 360, just grab one of these parts bin flywheels, put it on the machine, and look for the imbalance and drill accordingly. In looking at the flywheel, a 3197219 with no "c" behind it, it definitely has the cast in counterweight...however, my 75 360 flywheel does not...nor did my 290 flywheel. In fact, the only flywheels I have seen with the cast in weight pads were from 390/401 motors. From an article I just read by Al Trapanese, these cast in weight pads were designed for the 390/401's to compensate for their forged (read that heavier) crankshafts. And yet this flywheel reportedly came off a mid 70's 360 Jeep motor! Is it possible? Like I said...I wonder if this wasn't just an AMC "slap the part on and make it work" thing. At this point, they may have had a few left over 401 flywheels, and what better way to use up stock than to put them on 360's. Regardless, it would appear that I will be balancing the entire engine assembly, which is a good thing, I had planned on it anyhow. Thankyou all for the information and ideas...anyone else have thoughts on this...
