    If you race the car on the strip especially with slicks, I would find
the stronger chunks to use and forget the others just to keep things simple.
I have an 8 3/4 in my 68 AMX Super Pro car and I have different chunks with
gears set up that I can swap in easily for a gear change.  I would not want
to search specifically for the weaker differentials just because I started
out with one.
    As for strength, there was a time when the beefier  8 3/4 was used in
fuel dragsters.
