Hesco Head?? Maybe??

Listers,
Glenn Ford is a list member but was not sure he could post, sent an
email detailing that Hesco is working on an aluminum head for AMC. He
sent a site link but I forgot to grab it. It is certainly on the Hesco
web site. This may be the head Brien was speaking of, I don't know. This
head clearly is not a crossflow head.. The head looks great for what you
cabn see. On first glance it looks like a CNC head, but looking better
you can see it is a casting. Great, glad Hesco is doing one.
Head is wearing single rocker studs and guideplates. Info says the head
will end up fitting 258 as well as 4.0.
I will also share the comments on the ''crossflow'' head as was
discussed with both Indy & Bulldog. Both say there is no advantage to a
crossflow head in a cam in block.wedge head type engine. In their
opinion when the engine is operating the air which is drawn in,
compressed, then burned, really has no idea of the direction it takes to
move out the exhaust port. The opinion is a crossflow type head is used
for only a few reasons. Packaging in the vehicle is one. Using overhead
valves is another, and using Hemi chamber is another. The only edge you
might gain using a crossflow head is due to temp drop on the intakes
side of the head. But their thoughts are that due to the fact that all
current usable AMC vehicles do not use a crossflow head then if/when
they build a head it WILL NOT be a crossflow version. Both companies
feel that customers wanting an Aluminum AMC 6 cylinder head want a
product that will allow most of their other stock components, or other
''available'' aftermarket components to bolt to the head. I personally
totally agree. We don't need to reinvent the wheel here. There is in
absolutely no way enough customers for an aluminum head for mass
production that would require everything else to be replaced with other
custom made parts which no one provides just for the sake of having a
crossflow head.
Thanks Glenn Ford for sharing the info.
Brien, if you have different info, please share it.
Regards,
Randy Guynn
