I once made similar threads useable on a prop shaft for and Outboard boat. I went to sears and bought their fine set of jeweller type files and sat and filed and cleaned things up till the new nut I bought would thread on. Then I used Bearing loctite, or was it Thread restore? Torqued to spec and it worked fine.
If the threads are totally stripped off you are done.
This repair will likely be a one time deal too. As the next time you remove the nut the remaining threads will come with it.
Your mileage will vary!
