Vacuum hose diagram - Newbie help needed

Hello everyone:

I am a new member - although a regular on a number of other lists - and am getting my first AMC ready for the road before winter spoils my fun. This can occur at any moment in northern Alberta.

I purchased a '78 Matador Barcelona Coupe two weeks ago and am working on the problems of a car which sat for 15 years before I bought it.

I have found a number of vacuum hose problems under the hood and need a diagram or some help to sort them out. I have ordered a manual but it has not yet arrived and I must have the car ready for an inspection tomorrow.

1. My car has the 360 2bbl engine. At the back of the manifold there is a large diameter plastic vacuum tree which is mounted in a grommet to the intake manifold. It has two branches, one of which goes to the charcoal cannister. The other branch of the tree is open to the air. Does this have a hose going to it or should it be capped.

2. There is a round check valve or some such device mounted horizontally on the manifold directly behind the carburetor and near the plastic tree mentioned above. It has a vertical nipple on it for a hose but no hose is nearby. It is also drawing air into the engine. What goes here? Is it the air cleaner feed?

3. There is a 3" long pipe coming from the choke area which appears to need a hose to it as well. This is not the hot air feed from the exhaust manifold to the choke housing. What goes here? Is this for the air cleaner or is it a vent for the choke, or?

Help will be very much appreciated.

John
