I am working on two projects now. Besides putting my 73 Javelin back
together, I'm building up an NOS 343 short block for my 69 AMX. I got the
heads (090 casting) back from the shop today. BTW, the shop had a set of
the new Edlebrock aluminum heads so I got to see them for the first time. I
passed along the info I got here on the list about the valve springs being
too strong for proper cam breakin. I don't know if it will do any good, but
the machinists there seem very concientious and the recognize me as an AMC
guy.
Anyway, the NOS short block is a 3195528 casting service replacement block
(with the 360 ground off the block). It has been converted to 7/16 head
bolts with what appear to be threaded inserts. If I could remove these I
would use 1/2 inch head bolts, but I have not yet attempted it.
Questions:
The pistons are marked with A, B, C, or D with grease pencil. Would this be
a weight designation?
What are the specs for the stock cam (343 with flat top cast pistons)? I
have an original Sig Erson cam and will use it if it will enhance
performance.
Thanks,
Joe Fulton
