For the record, my engine has TRW forged pistons which were fit to stock
clearances and I've never heard any noises (piston slap, knocks, etc) coming
from them when cold or otherwise. But then again, I've never been one to
rev the daylights out of, or put extreme loads on a cold engine. I agree
with Nick in that excessive noise could very well be attributed to a looser
piston fit or the wrist pin as he described.
