Re: FW: air gap

From all the responses I have seen on the topic the problem was caused by people cutting corners and ignoring the installation instructions by using "GM type" 2 piece(one gasket for each head) intake gaskets instead of the correct one piece re-useable AMC metal intake gasket, and also not using the supplied edelbrock oil baffle on the underside of the intake. Just ommitting "ONE" of those components will cause oil problems with the pcv, omitting BOTH is sorta dumb, and will cause oil problems with the PCV. Using 2 piece gaskets that leave the bottom of the intake wide open to splashing oil and hot soaking makes no sense at all and will probably cancekl out any density increases from the air gap design as the heat soaks into the runners. The one piece metal gasket blocks all the hot oil and radiant heat from the bottom of the intaks, it's an AMC engine design that gives it an advantage over other motors.
