Re: Badger pistons the pro's and cons....VS. Factory stock?

 Steve,

My question is why do you think a stock set of pistons is better than a +.030 set that has extra strengthening to the side skirts? Factory pistons are also usually compromises to cut production costs because..in your own words..they are "churning out" thousands of cars, but my factory 343 pistons saw 5500-5800 RPM many many times. I am building the 343 to make peak power in that same RPM range with the +.030 pistons, it is basically going to be the same combo, headers, R4B, 750 AFB, with the addition of a hotter cam, 1/2" headbolts, better oiling and aluminum heads. Those parts will make a huge difference in the RPM range I am building for without having to go to higher revs. Not all of my stock pistons were exactly the same and the castings looked kinda crude to me,one of them broke apart at the side skirt and pin bore when the wrist pin was pressed out. I highly doubt that if Badger pistons are supplied to rebuilders that churn out thousands of rebuilt motors that !
only last a year or 2, would still be making pistons. I'll post a pic of a stock cleaned up piston and a Badger side by side tomorrow.
